Student Council Elections @ Great Lakes, Gurgaon

“THREE YEARS AND THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A TIE”, SAID THE MANAGER BEFORE ASKING THE SAMURAIS TO SEAL THE FATE OF THE STUDENT BODY INTO THE SECRET BALLOT BOX. THE OCCASION BEING STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS FOR THE SAMURAIS – PGPM CLASS OF 2016, GURGAON.

A total of eight candidates nominated themselves for the position. Two manifestos reached the administration after Dr. Himadri Das, Director – Great Lakes, Gurgaon addressed the batch, urging more people to throw their hat into the ring and to look at the position of Student Council from a broader perspective.

After a list of dos and don’ts, every candidate had a chance to make a pitch for their candidature. Vikas Kumar made a promise that he would not let anyone down, while Lavanya captivated everyone with her inspiring words, “Discomfort is the only comfort”.

The votes were cast and the real-time vote displayed in a way that everyone could see the vote count for each candidate. And finally when the counting was over, we had our three winners. No, not exactly three but four winners, as two candidates had exactly 35 votes – Vikgnesh and Sonali.

Both of them had expected to win and it was hard to believe what had happened. Samurais were in the favour of a four-member student council but Dr.Das asked for a re-vote between candidates having same number of votes.

While Sonali was very nervous before the re-vote, Vikgnesh was very positive and said he would accept the verdict of his classmates happily. Vikgnesh, eventually, came out as the winner in a very interesting re-vote.

Amidst lots of drama, anticipations and awestruck expressions, we successfully elected our student body in Shashi Lavanya, Vikas Kumar and Vikgnesh.

In Lavanya, Vikas and Vikgnesh, Samurais found their Shoguns – commanders of the Samurais!
